Loggerhead Sea Turtles

The first Loggerhead nest was laid in South Carolina this morning, in Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge.  Our summer interns begin arriving on May 10, and they’ll be helping both on Dewees and up at Cape.  This video is a quick nature look at the turtle program.

Every section of beach from North Carolina to Texas gets walked every day by volunteers helping monitor turtle protection.  If they find a nest, there is an authorized person for each beach who is permitted to mark, relocate, and protect the nest, and they will make an assessment about whether the nest needs to be relocated due to vehicle traffic or predictable high tides.
