If you’ve just scanned the code on our new beachcombing guide, you’re in the right place.  We have over 100 shells and organisms pictured so you can use it as a quick reference for identification.  This site is dedicated to going a little deeper to learn more about the animals you see.

Living Invertebrates

Egg Casings

Most of the egg casings you’ll find on the beach are from gastropods, and many have a lot of small chambers with holes where the embryonic snails can get out.  You may even find tiny snails inside the capsules that never hatched out. Click the photo to find out more.

Bivalves

Bivalves are mollusks that have two-halved hinged shells.  This gallery shows the wide variety we can find.
