Zugunruhe is defined as a restlessness that leads to an urge to migrate; to be on the move. Here in the lowcountry, September is one of the biggest migration months. Shorebirds are returning from the arctic where they nest, warblers are flitting through the underbrush, manatees swing by the main dock, even dragonflies are migrating in groups large enough to register on radar.
Multiple Ways to Track Migration
It's a good time to look for skinks and frogs
Exploring Tidepools
September can bring king tides (extreme tides) which expose even more at low tide. Check out moon snails and brittle stars.
